Privacy Policy
The short version: Sea Temp does not track you, sets no advertising cookies, and stores only the UI preferences you choose yourself.
What we store on your device
Your language preference, your °C/°F unit choice, your theme (light/dark/system) and your list of favourite destinations are kept in your browser's localStorage and a single seatemp:locale cookie. None of this data leaves your device.
Geolocation
If you use the "Find nearest beach" button, your browser asks for your location and we use it once to pick the closest destination. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers and never persisted.
Analytics
Sea Temp does not run any analytics, pageview tracking, behavioural telemetry or third-party tracking pixels. No advertising or marketing cookies are set.
Abuse protection
To protect our upstream API quota from automated scraping, we briefly hold visitor IP addresses in memory to enforce per-IP rate limits on /api/probe and /api/beach-search. IP addresses are never written to disk, never logged, and are dropped from memory within roughly a minute.
Third-party data sources
Map tiles are served by CartoCDN. Live data is requested from Apple Weather, Copernicus Marine, NOAA and NASA. Destination photography is licensed from Adobe Stock and served from our own domain. Beach search queries are processed by the Google Places API – only the search text you type is sent to Google. Hotel suggestions on destination pages link out to Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com via affiliate links – when you click through, the partner sets its own cookies on its own site and we may earn a small commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. These providers have their own privacy policies.
The iOS and Android apps
The Sea Temp mobile apps have no accounts and no sign-up, and they never ask for your device location — there is no find-me control in them. Your favourite places, your temperature alerts, your unit, theme and language choices and a small cache of recent readings are stored on the device itself, in storage the app shares with its widgets. Deleting the app removes all of it. The apps contain no analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking SDKs of any kind. The map is drawn by MapLibre with CartoCDN tiles, exactly as on this website, and every reading is fetched from our own API for the place you are looking at.
Purchases in the apps
Sea Temp Premium is sold through the App Store and Google Play, and the subscription state is managed for us by RevenueCat. Apple or Google process the payment — we never see your card details. RevenueCat receives the store transaction, which product was bought, the store country, the device model and OS version, and an anonymous identifier that RevenueCat itself generates for that installation. It receives no name and no email address, because the apps have no accounts. That identifier is what lets a single purchase unlock Premium in both the iOS and the Android app. Purchase records are kept by Apple or Google under their own terms, and by RevenueCat for as long as the entitlement lasts.
Alerts in the apps
If you set a temperature alert on a saved place, the app schedules the notification on the device and checks that one place against our API in the background. There is no push service and no device token: nothing about the alert leaves the phone except the request for that place’s temperature — the same request the map makes when you tap it.
