Privacy Policy
The short version: Sea Temp does not track you and sets no advertising cookies. Without an account it stores only the preferences you choose yourself, plus one timestamp that limits the Stay22 hotel tab to once a day (with Premium the tab never opens). An account is optional and exists only for Sea Temp Premium: it keeps your email address and what Premium needs to work on all your devices.
What we store on your device
Your language preference, your °C/°F unit choice, your theme (light/dark/system), your favourite destinations, your recent searches and where you left the map are kept in your browser's localStorage and a single seatemp:locale cookie, together with one timestamp for the Stay22 hotel tab (see below). The full list is in our Cookie Policy. None of it is sent anywhere, except the language cookie, which our own server reads to show the page in your language.
Geolocation
The "Find nearest beach" button on this website is the only thing that ever asks where you are, and it only asks when you click it – your browser shows its own permission prompt, and if you decline it we fall back to the rough, city-level position your IP address suggests. Your position is then rounded to about a kilometre and sent to our own API, which works out where the nearest coast is; the pin that drops, and the sea temperature we fetch for it, belong to that coast rather than to you – for anyone inland it is usually hundreds of kilometres away. We keep no record of your position: no account, no cookie, no database entry, and it is never passed to a third party. The mobile apps have no such button and never ask for your location at all.
Analytics
We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, the statistics built into our hosting. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. For each page view it records the page address without anything after the "?", the site you came from, the country and city worked out from your IP address, and your device type, operating system and browser. To tell visits apart it uses a one-way hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours; your IP address is not stored, and nothing is linked to you or followed across other websites. We only ever look at the totals. Beyond that, Sea Temp runs no other analytics, behavioural telemetry, advertising networks or third-party tracking pixels, and sets no advertising or marketing cookies.
Abuse protection
To protect our upstream API quota from automated scraping, we briefly hold visitor IP addresses in memory to enforce per-IP rate limits on /api/probe and /api/beach-search; those addresses are never written to disk and are dropped from memory within roughly a minute. Requests for a sign-in code are limited too: for that, a count per email address and per IP address is kept in our database for at most 24 hours and then deleted.
Third-party data sources
The map – its tiles, labels and style – is served from our own domain, cdn.seatempmap.com, through Cloudflare. The map data comes from OpenStreetMap and the map design from CARTO; neither of them receives your requests. Live data is requested from Apple Weather, Copernicus Marine, Copernicus CAMS, NOAA, NASA and the University of Bremen. Destination photography is licensed from Adobe Stock and served from our own domain. Beach search queries are processed by the Apple Maps Server API – only the search text you type is sent to Apple. Hotel suggestions on destination pages link out to Booking.com, Expedia, Trip.com and Agoda via affiliate links – when you click through, the partner sets its own cookies on its own site and we may earn a small commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. On Czech-language pages, package holidays from TUI.cz are linked the same way through the Commission Junction (CJ) affiliate network: nothing is tracked before you click; the click passes through CJ's redirect, and CJ and TUI then set their own cookies on their own sites. These providers have their own privacy policies.
Accommodation map (Stay22)
Destination pages show a map of hotels and apartments with nightly prices, supplied by Stay22 (stay22.com) and loaded from Stay22's own servers inside a separate frame when you scroll to it – but, for visitors from the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland, only once you have agreed to it in the cookie consent window or with the button shown in its place; elsewhere it loads without asking. Like any website you open, Stay22 then receives your IP address and basic browser details, and it may use its own cookies inside that frame under its own privacy policy – we do not see or receive any of it. Prices on the map come from Stay22's booking partners, and a booking is always completed on the partner's website; if you book through the map, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The map in the iOS and Android apps works the same way.
Hotel tab (Stay22)
When you open a place's full forecast – the photo or "View full forecast" in a map card, or a tile in a destination list – the page you asked for may open in a new tab, while the tab you were on moves to a hotel search for that place at one of Stay22's booking partners (such as Booking.com, Expedia or Hotels.com). In the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland this happens only if you have allowed it in the cookie consent window; at most once a day in your browser, and only on the website – the apps never do it. You can change your answer any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the page. That tab is an affiliate link: Stay22 receives your IP address, basic browser details, the page you came from and the name of the place, the partner sets its own cookies on its own site, and if you book there we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Go back or close the tab to return. To keep it to once a day, your browser stores one timestamp (seatemp:stay22-undertab) in localStorage; it never leaves your device. With Sea Temp Premium the hotel tab never opens, and you can also switch off the other partner offers in the settings.
The iOS and Android apps
The Sea Temp apps are provided by Tomáš Lovnianský, Vodárenská 4607/92, 921 01 Piešťany, Slovakia (IČO 45416605). The apps work fully without an account; you only sign in if you want Sea Temp Premium on the website and your other devices too (see "Your Sea Temp account" below). They never ask for your device location – there is no find-me control in them. Your favourite places, your temperature alerts, your unit, theme and language choices and a small cache of recent readings are stored on the device itself, in storage the app shares with its widgets. Deleting the app removes all of that from the device; it does not delete an account – use Settings → Account → Delete account for that. The apps contain no analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking SDKs of any kind. The map is drawn by MapLibre with map tiles from our own server, exactly as on this website (app versions released before November 2026 still load them from CartoCDN), and every reading is fetched from our own API for the place you are looking at.
Buying Sea Temp Premium
Sea Temp Premium is sold in the apps through the App Store and Google Play, and on this website through Paddle.com, which acts as the Merchant of Record for web purchases. Apple, Google or Paddle process the payment – we never see your card details. Which purchases are active is managed for us by RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives the store or Paddle transaction, which product was bought, the store country, the device model and OS version, and an identifier: an anonymous one that RevenueCat generates for the installation or, once you sign in, your account's identifier – a random code, never your email address. As the seller, Paddle receives what you enter at its checkout (email address, country, payment details) and handles it under its own privacy policy. Without an account, a purchase stays with the store you bought it from – your Apple ID on iPhone and iPad, your Google account on Android. Purchase records are kept by Apple, Google or Paddle under their own terms, and by RevenueCat for as long as the entitlement lasts.
Your Sea Temp account
You only need an account to use Sea Temp Premium on more than one device. You sign in with your email address and a one-time 6-digit code; there is no password. The account is provided by Tomáš Lovnianský (address above), who is the controller of this data. We store your email address; a random account identifier; your sign-in sessions – a cookie on the website, a token in the app – each with the IP address and browser or app it was opened from, valid for up to 180 days; whether Sea Temp Premium is active, from which store and until when; and, if you use the passport map with Premium, the countries you have marked and when. We process this to provide the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Processors: Neon (our database, hosted in the EU), Resend (sends the sign-in code email), RevenueCat (purchase status) and Paddle (web purchases, as the seller). We keep the data until you delete the account. Deleting it – at seatempmap.com/account, or in the app under Settings → Account – removes the account, its sessions, passport and purchase status from our database and the customer record at RevenueCat straight away. Invoices that Apple, Google or Paddle must keep by law stay with them. Deleting the account does not cancel a store subscription.
Alerts in the apps
If you set a temperature alert on a saved place, the app schedules the notification on the device and checks that one place against our API in the background. There is no push service and no device token: nothing about the alert leaves the phone except the request for that place’s temperature – the same request the map makes when you tap it.

With an account you can delete it yourself at any time (see above), or ask us to. Purchase records held by Apple, Google, Paddle or RevenueCat can be raised with us and we will pass the request on.
