How do I add the sea temperature widget to my website?
Pick a destination, copy the code and paste it where you want the card. Your page or HTML block must allow external JavaScript. If your editor removes script tags, use its custom-code settings or ask your website administrator. Preview the published page to check the widget loads.
Is the widget really free?
Yes – free for personal and commercial sites alike, with no sign-up, no API key and no traffic limit. All we ask is that you keep the small SeaTempMap.com link under the card – that credit is what keeps the widget free. Widget Pro (€99/year) removes both the credit link and the click-through to our site, and adds a 10-day forecast, a custom destination name, off-season mode and the Detailed design with wind, humidity, pressure and visibility.
Where does the data come from, and how often does it update?
Sea temperature uses NASA satellite data on a 1 km grid, with SeaTempMap's hourly correction of the daily baseline. This is an estimate, not a measurement at your exact beach. Weather and atmospheric readings come from Apple Weather. While the page is visible, the widget requests fresh data every 30 minutes; this does not mean a new satellite measurement. Will it match my website's design?
Choose Liquid Glass, frosted glass, a light or dark theme, or automatic mode to adapt to the page background. Liquid Glass adds background refraction in supported versions of Chrome and Edge. On iPhone and iPad, and in Safari and Firefox, the card uses frosted glass instead; the readings and controls work the same way.
Will the widget conflict with my website's styling?
No – the card renders inside a Shadow DOM, a browser feature that fully isolates it: your theme's CSS can't accidentally break the widget, and the widget's styles can't leak into your page.
How does the widget choose its language?
The widget follows the language of the page it is embedded in, not the visitor's browser language. It supports 30 languages and falls back to English for unsupported languages. You can also set the language explicitly in the embed code.
Will the widget slow my page down?
The widget loads a single script with no external libraries, asynchronously so it does not block the page from appearing. It transfers about 75–90 kB, depending on compression, plus requests for current data. If data cannot be loaded, the card still appears with dashes in place of numbers, preserving your layout, and tries again on the next refresh.
Can I show more than one destination?
Yes – paste one snippet per destination and each card renders on its own, so a hotel with two locations can show both. The script only needs to be included once per page, though a duplicate does no harm. The same goes for Widget Pro: one key covers one beach, and if you need several destinations on one site, that is what Widget Pro Multi is for.
Which beaches does the widget work for?
Any beach in the world. Either pick a destination from our map, or switch to the Anywhere tab and drop a pin on any coast – the pin does not have to land on water, the card finds the nearest sea itself. Both are free, and the card looks and works the same either way.
Does it use cookies or collect visitor data?
The widget does not set cookies or track visitors for advertising. Loading it sends technical requests to SeaTempMap; IP addresses are used to protect the service against abuse. This is different from collecting no data at all. Your privacy notice should describe the external services used on your website.
Does the widget send my visitors to your site?
The free card does – the whole card is a link: to that destination's page for a beach from our map, or to that spot's detail view for your own coordinate. A small source line sits under it too. That is what you give in return for having it free. A licensed Widget Pro card is not a link at all: no source line, no click-through, so your visitor stays on your site.
What happens when a Widget Pro licence expires?
The card keeps working – sea, air, weather and UV all keep updating. It simply goes back to being the free card: our small SeaTempMap.com credit reappears on it and the paid extras are no longer shown. Nothing breaks and nothing disappears – renew the licence and the card is exactly as it was.
What does the Detailed design show, and when can I use it?
The Detailed design is available with Widget Pro as a wide card showing current conditions, rather than a 10-day forecast. It puts the destination, weather, air and sea temperatures, and circular UV, wind, humidity, pressure and visibility gauges in one row. You can try it in the generator before buying; using it on your own website requires a valid Widget Pro licence.
How do I set the temperature and wind units?
Set the temperature to °C or °F in the embed code. The Detailed design has a separate wind setting: automatic, km/h, mph or m/s. Automatic mode uses the visitor's browser language and region settings, independently of the page language and temperature units. A British visitor can therefore see °C with mph, and a Japanese visitor °C with m/s. Choosing a fixed wind unit shows that unit to everyone.
