About Santorini

Santorini is the crescent rim of a flooded caldera in the southern Cyclades, gouged by the Minoan eruption around 1600 BC; the cliffside towns of Fira and Oia perch some 300 metres above the lagoon. Near Akrotiri on the southwest tip, Red Beach (Kokkini Paralia) tucks beneath rust-coloured volcanic cliffs, while Perissa stretches a long black-sand strand along the eastern coast below Mesa Vouno. Sea temperatures hold between 23 and 25 °C from July through September, with Thira (JTR) airport about 15 minutes by road.
