Porto Timoni holidays
Two coves of clear water, set back to back and joined by a narrow strip of sand and pebbles, make Porto Timoni a double beach on the Afionas peninsula in north-west Corfu. There is no road to it: the beach is reached on foot from the hilltop village of Afionas or by boat from the neighbouring bays.
Beaches
At Porto Timoni, one cove lies on each side of the isthmus, and the water is usually calm on at least one of them. There are no sunbeds, bars or lifeguards, so bring water, food and shade. The path from Afionas takes about 20 to 30 minutes down over rocky ground and is harder on the way back up, which makes it unsuitable for pushchairs and difficult for small children. For a day with facilities, Agios Georgios Pagon, the long sandy bay just south of the peninsula, and Arillas to the north both have shallow water that suits families, tavernas and sunbeds.
Things to do
Afionas is a village of narrow lanes with views over the sea to the Diapontia islands, and its terraces fill at sunset. South along the coast, Paleokastritsa has green bays, a monastery on a headland and boat trips to sea caves, and the Byzantine castle of Angelokastro stands on a crag above it. The sandstone formations of the Canal d'Amour at Sidari are about half an hour to the north-east. Boats from Agios Stefanos sail to the Diapontia islands of Othoni, Ereikoussa and Mathraki. Corfu Town, whose old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is about an hour away by car.
Weather and best time to visit
At Porto Timoni the sea stays above 20 °C / 68 °F from June to November.
Corfu is greener and rainier than most Greek islands, with most rain falling in winter. Summers are hot and sunny, and in July and August the beach is crowded in the middle of the day, so the walk is best done early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the path is cooler. June and September are quieter.

Afionas has guesthouses and apartments with sea views, a short walk from the path. Agios Georgios Pagon and Arillas have more hotels and apartments close to their beaches, and Paleokastritsa has larger hotels about half an hour away.

Airport and getting there
Corfu Airport (CFU) is about 40 km away, roughly an hour by car. In summer, the green KTEL buses run from Corfu Town to the villages of the north-west, but a car or scooter is the easier option; the last stretch to Afionas is narrow, and parking in the village is limited. Ferries reach Corfu from Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland and from ports in Italy.
