About Navagio
On the northwest coast of Zakynthos in the Ionian Islands, Navagio Beach opens as a sandy cove walled in by sheer limestone cliffs and reachable only by sea. The rusting hull of the MV Panagiotis, a coaster that ran aground in 1980 and gave the beach its alternate name Smugglers Cove, still lies on the white sand; daytrip caïques depart from Porto Vromi to the south and round Cape Skinari from the north. Ionian sea temperatures climb between 24 and 26 °C75 and 79 °F from July through September.
