About Elafonissi
At Crete's southwestern tip, the islet of Elafonissi shelters a turquoise lagoon whose sand glows pink from crushed coral and shell fragments, with the whole stretch protected as a Natura 2000 site. The main beach is broad, shallow and family-friendly, wade-able across the lagoon to the offshore strip at low tide; quieter Kedrodasos, a cedar-grove cove on white sand, sits about two kilometres east. Sea temperatures climb to between 24 and 26 °C75 and 79 °F from July through September, with Chania airport roughly seventy-five minutes by mountain road via Kastelli.
