About Cathedral Cove
On the Coromandel Peninsula's eastern flank, Cathedral Cove anchors the 840-hectare Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve, declared in 1992 around a white-limestone arch linking two small sandy bays – the same backdrop that opens The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008). A 1.5 km clifftop walk from Hahei Beach reaches the arch; 10 km south, Hot Water Beach lets visitors dig their own thermal pool in the sand at low tide. Sea temperatures hold 21–23 °C from January through March, the austral-summer peak.
