Pulau Lang Tengah holidays
Between Redang and the Perhentian Islands, off the coast of Terengganu in Malaysia, the small, forested island of Pulau Lang Tengah rises from the South China Sea. With no village and only a few resorts on its sandy coves, the island is part of a protected marine park, and its reefs and turtle beaches are the reason most people come.
Beaches
Pasir Besar, on the west coast of Pulau Lang Tengah, is a sandy beach with resorts: white sand, clear water and a house reef that starts a few strokes from shore, with a jetty where the boats arrive. Pasir Pandak, just to the south, is a smaller, quieter cove, and a few other beaches ring the island. Pasir Besar faces west, so sunsets can be watched from the sand. Things to do
Snorkelling trips circle Pulau Lang Tengah and nearby reefs, where blacktip reef sharks, turtles and parrotfish are often seen; dive centres at the resorts run trips to sites around Lang Tengah and Redang. Green and hawksbill turtles nest on the island's beaches, and a volunteer conservation project protects the nests, with talks and, in season, the chance to watch hatchlings released. Resorts lend kayaks for exploring the coves around the island. Marine-park rules forbid touching coral, feeding fish and taking shells.

Airport and getting there
Sultan Mahmud Airport (TGG) in Kuala Terengganu has flights from Kuala Lumpur. From the airport, a road transfer reaches the mainland jetty used by your resort, such as Merang or Mangkuk, and speedboats cross to Pulau Lang Tengah in roughly 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the sea. Boats usually run at set times each day, so plan flights to match them. A marine-park conservation fee is charged, so check the current amount and the boat times with your resort.
