About Pontal do Atalaia
Pontal do Atalaia is the hundred-metre rocky headland that closes Arraial do Cabo at the east end of Rio de Janeiro's Costa do Sol, looking across to Ilha do Cabo Frio over water that cold-water upwelling turns turquoise – the only Brazilian shore known as Caribe Brasileiro. Praia do Forno hides at the foot of the cliff, a hike-in cove with calm, glass-clear shallows; Prainha sits beside the town with broader sand and easy access. The same upwelling keeps the sea cool: 22–24 °C72–75 °F from December through March.
