Baía do Sancho holidays
Enclosed by tall cliffs on the main island of Fernando de Noronha, Baía do Sancho is a bay of golden sand and clear water that can be reached only down ladders set into a crack in the rock or from the sea. Fernando de Noronha is a Brazilian archipelago of 21 islands and islets in the Atlantic, about 350 km off the coast of Rio Grande do Norte and part of the state of Pernambuco.
Beaches
Baía do Sancho faces the calmer "inner sea" of Fernando de Noronha, and snorkellers see sea turtles, rays and reef fish close to the shore. Next door, Baía dos Porcos is a small cove with natural pools and a view of Morro Dois Irmãos, two rocky peaks rising from the sea. On the other side of the island, Baía do Sueste is a sheltered bay where turtles feed, although park rules may prohibit swimming in the bay, and Praia do Leão is a nesting beach for green turtles. Things to do
About 70 % of the archipelago belongs to a marine national park created in 1988, and together with Atol das Rocas, Fernando de Noronha is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From a viewpoint above Baía dos Golfinhos, visitors often see spinner dolphins in the morning; swimming in that bay is not allowed. Diving trips explore the reefs and wrecks around the islands, and the main village, Vila dos Remédios, has an 18th-century fort. Sunset from the Forte do Boldró is a daily ritual.

Fernando de Noronha is warm all year. The rainy season runs roughly from March to July, while August to February is drier and sunnier. From about December to March, swells from the north reach the inner-sea side, bringing surf to Cacimba do Padre and sometimes rougher water at Baía do Sancho, and the rest of the year is usually calm.

Accommodation on Fernando de Noronha is mainly in pousadas, small guesthouses spread around Vila dos Remédios, Floresta Nova and Vila do Boldró, and the number of visitors is limited. Most tourists pay a daily environmental preservation fee, and a separate ticket is needed to visit the national park, with some exemptions.

Airport and getting there
Fernando de Noronha Airport (FEN) is served by flights from the Brazilian mainland, including Recife, about an hour and a half away; routes change, so check whether a flight is direct or needs a connection. No passenger ferries run from the mainland to Fernando de Noronha, and on the island visitors get around by buggy, taxi or the bus that runs along the main road, the BR-363.
