About Cádiz

Founded by Phoenicians as Gadir around 1100 BC, Cádiz packs its Casco Antiguo onto a rock peninsula on the Costa de la Luz, crowned by the gold-tiled dome of the Catedral de Cádiz and the 45-metre Torre Tavira. La Caleta is a horseshoe cove between two old fortresses at the old town's tip, while Playa de la Victoria runs three kilometres along the new-town isthmus. Atlantic waters from the Gulf of Cádiz stay cooler than the Mediterranean, peaking at 21–22 °C from July to September; Jerez airport is 45 minutes by A-4.
