About Biarritz
On the Bay of Biscay's southwestern French shore, Biarritz anchors the Basque coast around the Hôtel du Palais, the seafront villa Napoleon III built for Empress Eugénie in 1855 and converted into a hotel five decades later. The central Grande Plage curves a kilometre of golden sand between the casino and Pointe Saint-Martin, while Plage de la Côte des Basques opens south as the cradle of European surfing since the 1950s. Sea temperatures hover between 20 and 22 °C68 and 72 °F from July through September, with Biarritz Pays Basque airport ten minutes inland.
