About Split

Central Dalmatia's anchor city is Split, built around Diocletian's Palace — the Roman emperor's fortified retirement complex completed in 305 AD and inscribed by UNESCO in 1979, with residents still living inside its 220-metre seafront walls. East of the harbour, Bačvice Beach is the city's shallow urban sand, home to the local Picigin ball game; westward on the Marjan peninsula, Kasjuni Beach is pebbly and pine-shaded with clearer water. Sea temperatures hold 24–26 °C from July through September, with Split Airport 25 minutes west by the D8.
