About Nazaré
On Portugal's Costa de Prata, Nazaré owes its fame to the 230-kilometre Nazaré Canyon, which funnels Atlantic swell into the giants of Praia do Norte, where Sebastian Steudtner rode a record 26.2-metre wave below the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo lighthouse in 2020. South of the cliff, Praia da Nazaré offers a kilometre of fine sand calm enough for summer swimming, while Praia do Salgado runs wilder down the coast. The ocean stays cool at 17-19 °C63-66 °F from July through September, Lisbon airport 75 minutes south by the A8.
