Da Nang holidays
Da Nang is a port city on the central coast of Vietnam, where the Han River reaches the sea, with the forested Son Tra peninsula to the north and a long sandy beach running south towards Hoi An. My Khe, the city's main beach, lies only a few minutes from the centre across the river.
Beaches
My Khe Beach is wide and sandy, with lifeguard posts, umbrellas and seafood restaurants along the beachfront road. Many locals swim early in the morning and in the evening, when the sand is cooler. From about autumn to early spring the sea is often rough, with strong waves and currents, so swim only where lifeguards are present and when the flags allow. Further south, Non Nuoc Beach below the Marble Mountains is quieter, and small coves on the Son Tra peninsula are sheltered on calm days. Things to do
On the Son Tra peninsula, Linh Ung Pagoda has a tall white statue of the Goddess of Mercy looking over the bay, and the forest is home to the rare red-shanked douc langur. The Marble Mountains are five limestone hills with caves, pagodas and steps to the top. In the centre of Da Nang, the Dragon Bridge puts on scheduled fire-and-water shows, usually on weekend evenings, and the Museum of Cham Sculpture holds carvings from ancient Champa. Day trips go to the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills, to the old town of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site about 30 km south, and over the Hai Van Pass.

In Da Nang, the dry season, from about February to August, is the best time for the beach, with hot, sunny summers. From September to December is the rainy season, with the heaviest rain usually in October and November, and typhoons and floods are possible.

Hotels and apartment towers line the beach road along My Khe, a short ride from the centre. The central Hai Chau area on the west bank of the Han River is best for markets, cafés and the riverside, while large resorts sit on the Son Tra peninsula and along the beach south towards Hoi An.

Airport and getting there
Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is in the city, a short drive from My Khe Beach depending on traffic, with domestic and international flights. Da Nang is also a stop on the North–South railway, and Hoi An is about 45 minutes away by car or shuttle bus.
