Doha holidays
Doha is the capital of Qatar, on the east coast of the Qatar peninsula in the Persian Gulf. The seven-kilometre Corniche curves around Doha Bay from the Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I. M. Pei and opened in 2008, to the towers of West Bay. Doha is a city first: most of its sea access is at hotel beaches, beach clubs and a few public beaches that charge for entry.
Beaches
Katara Beach in Doha, in the Katara Cultural Village between West Bay and The Pearl, is about 1.5 km of groomed sand with water sports and an entry fee. West Bay Beach offers a similar ticketed day by the sea below the skyline. For wild sand, Khor Al Adaid, the Inland Sea in the far south-east of Qatar, is a nature reserve where the sea reaches deep into the dunes; it can only be reached by 4×4.
Things to do
In Doha, Souq Waqif beside the Corniche is a rebuilt traditional market of spice, textile and falcon shops. The Museum of Islamic Art sits on its own island at the end of the Corniche, and the National Museum of Qatar, designed by Jean Nouvel in the shape of a desert rose, opened in 2019. Evenings are spent at Katara Cultural Village or on the marinas of The Pearl, and desert safaris run south to the dunes around the Inland Sea.

In Doha, from June to September the water is bath-warm and the air often passes 40 °C / 104 °F in the afternoon. November to March brings milder weather, though the sea can feel cool in midwinter.

Airport and getting there
Allow around 30 to 40 minutes by car from Hamad International Airport to West Bay in Doha, depending on traffic; the Doha Metro Red Line also runs from the airport to West Bay and Lusail. Hamad is also one of the Gulf's main transfer hubs, so many travellers pass through Doha on the way elsewhere.
