Dubai holidays
Dubai is a city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates, on the Persian Gulf, where sandy beaches run alongside a metropolis of towers, shopping districts and the older neighbourhoods around Dubai Creek. A stay can combine time by the sea with markets, museums and trips into the surrounding desert.
Beaches
Jumeirah Beach offers public stretches of sand along the mainland coast. JBR Beach sits beside Dubai Marina, with restaurants and a promenade, while Kite Beach has watersports and places to eat behind the sand. Palm Jumeirah is an artificial island with beach resorts and Palm West Beach; much of its shoreline belongs to hotels or private homes, so check access before visiting. We measure the sea temperature shown on this page near the beach at Palm Jumeirah, where the photo was also taken.
Things to do
The Burj Khalifa and neighbouring Dubai Mall anchor Downtown Dubai. Around Dubai Creek, explore the lanes of Al Fahidi, cross the water in an abra boat and visit the gold and spice souqs on the Deira side. The View at The Palm looks over Palm Jumeirah, while organised desert excursions offer a different landscape beyond the city. Choose activities by area to avoid crossing the city repeatedly.
Weather and best time to visit
At Dubai the sea stays above 22 °C / 72 °F all year, even in the coolest month.
A hot desert climate brings very hot, humid summers and milder winters. November to March generally suits beach days and outdoor sightseeing better than midsummer. Rain is infrequent but can be heavy, so check the forecast before a desert trip. In summer, plan outdoor walks for the cooler parts of the day.
Hotels and where to stay
Dubai Marina and JBR put restaurants and the beach close together. Palm Jumeirah has large beach resorts, Downtown Dubai suits visits to the Burj Khalifa, and Deira and Bur Dubai offer a base near the creek and souqs. Check each property's beach access rather than assuming it is included.

Airport and getting there
Dubai International Airport (DXB) has Red Line metro stations at Terminals 1 and 3. The metro connects with central districts, while buses, the Dubai Tram and taxis cover onward journeys. Beach resorts often require a final road transfer; allow extra time during rush hour.
