Grace Bay holidays
Grace Bay is the long beach on the north-east coast of Providenciales, the main tourist island of the Turks and Caicos, a British Overseas Territory south-east of the Bahamas. A barrier reef offshore keeps the water in front of the beach calm and clear on most days.
Beaches
Grace Bay Beach is several kilometres of fine white sand with hotels and villas set back behind low dunes, and the shallow, usually calm water suits children. Grace Bay lies within Princess Alexandra National Park, where jet skis and fishing are prohibited. At its western end, Bight Beach has the Coral Gardens, a reef close enough to the shore to snorkel from the sand. On the south coast of Providenciales, Long Bay is shallow and windy, popular with kitesurfers, while Taylor Bay and Sapodilla Bay are small, sheltered and very shallow.
Things to do
Boat trips from Grace Bay visit Little Water Cay, known as Iguana Island, where rock iguanas live under protection, and sandbars and cays for snorkelling. Chalk Sound National Park, in the west of Providenciales, is a lagoon of turquoise water dotted with small rocky islets, best seen by kayak or from the road above. Divers head for the reef wall off north-west Providenciales, and conch, the local shellfish, is served fresh at beach restaurants such as those at Blue Hills. Grand Turk, home to the capital Cockburn Town, can be visited on a domestic flight from Providenciales (check schedules), and humpback whales pass through the Turks Island Passage from about January to April.

The Turks and Caicos are dry and sunny for most of the year, cooled by the trade winds. December to April is the peak season, with the most pleasant temperatures and the highest prices. Summer and early autumn are hotter and more humid, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, with activity usually peaking between mid-August and mid-October.

Most resorts, restaurants and shops on Providenciales are along Grace Bay, from The Bight in the west to Leeward in the east. Quieter villas and smaller resorts are found at Long Bay, Turtle Cove and Chalk Sound.

Airport and getting there
Providenciales International Airport (PLS), in the middle of the island, has direct flights from North America, the United Kingdom and nearby Caribbean islands, and it is about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from Grace Bay. From Providenciales, a ferry runs to North Caicos, with a road on to Middle Caicos, and domestic flights go to Grand Turk; check current schedules.
