Meads Bay holidays
A curve of white sand about 1.5 km long on the north-west coast of Anguilla, Meads Bay faces calm, clear water in the island's West End, with a few resorts and restaurants set back behind it. Anguilla is a low, flat British Overseas Territory in the eastern Caribbean, about 26 km long.
Beaches
The sea at Meads Bay is usually calm and shallow near the shore, which suits children, although winter swells from the north occasionally bring waves. Shoal Bay East, at the other end of Anguilla, has a long beach with snorkelling over the reef close to shore. Rendezvous Bay on the south coast looks across to Saint-Martin, and Little Bay is a small cove below cliffs that is usually reached by boat. From Sandy Ground, on Road Bay, boats run out to Sandy Island and the Prickly Pear Cays. The sea temperature on this page is measured off Meads Bay.
Things to do
Snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding are the main pastimes at Meads Bay, and boat charters leave for the offshore cays. Boat racing with traditional wooden sloops is Anguilla's national sport, and races draw crowds along the shore. In The Valley, the capital, Wallblake House is a plantation house from the late 18th century, and the Heritage Collection Museum in East End tells the island's history. Beach bars in Sandy Ground are known for live music in the evening.

Anguilla is sunny and dry for most of the year, with trade winds from the east that keep the heat pleasant. December to April is the driest and busiest season. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, with the highest risk from August to October; Hurricane Irma caused heavy damage in 2017. Some hotels and restaurants close for a few weeks in late summer.

Meads Bay has a handful of luxury resorts and villas and several beachfront restaurants, and more hotels are spread along Rendezvous Bay, Shoal Bay East and Maundays Bay. Many places on Anguilla are villas rather than hotels, and a rental car is useful for getting between beaches.

Airport and getting there
Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) near The Valley is about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from Meads Bay and has regional flights and some direct flights from the United States. Many visitors fly into Princess Juliana International Airport on Sint Maarten and cross by ferry from Marigot on Saint-Martin to Blowing Point, a trip of about 25 minutes, or by private boat transfer.
