About Ocean Flower Island
Off Hainan's northern coast, Ocean Flower Island is a 381-hectare artificial archipelago of three petal-shaped islets, conceived by Evergrande as a $24-billion resort city before the developer's 2021 collapse left much of it half-built. Imported white sand rings each petal, linked to the mainland near Danzhou by a five-kilometre causeway; a handful of hotels and a theme park now operate among the unfinished towers. The South China Sea sits between 27 and 29 °C81 and 84 °F from July through September; Haikou Meilan International is about 75 minutes by the G15 expressway.
