Anse Source d'Argent holidays
Granite boulders shaped by wind and water frame Anse Source d'Argent, a beach on the south-west coast of La Digue in the Seychelles. La Digue itself is a small island of about 10 km², where most people get around by bicycle, on foot or by electric buggy, and cars are few.
Beaches
Anse Source d'Argent is reached through L'Union Estate, which charges an entry fee, and is a chain of small coves between boulders, with shallow water protected by the reef. At low tide much of it becomes too shallow to swim, so mid to high tide is the better time. On the south-east coast, Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos are wider and wilder, and strong currents make swimming on these beaches risky, especially from May to September. In the north, Anse Sévère and Anse Patates are calmer and good for snorkelling when the sea is flat. The sea temperature on this page is measured off Anse Source d'Argent.
Things to do
L'Union Estate is a former coconut plantation with an old copra mill, a plantation house, a small vanilla plantation and giant Aldabra tortoises in an enclosure. The Veuve Reserve protects the Seychelles paradise flycatcher, a rare bird that breeds mainly on La Digue. A path climbs to Nid d'Aigle, the highest point of the island, with views over Praslin and the smaller islands. Boat trips go from La Digue to Coco Island, Félicité and the Sisters for snorkelling.

The Seychelles are warm and humid all year, just south of the equator. From December to March the north-west monsoon brings warmer, wetter weather, while from May to September the south-east trade winds are drier but stronger, with rougher seas on exposed coasts and seaweed on some beaches. April and October to November, between the two seasons, usually have the calmest sea.
Hotels and where to stay
La Digue has small hotels, guesthouses and self-catering chalets rather than large resorts, most of them around the harbour at La Passe and along the west coast between La Passe and L'Union. Many visitors come for a day from Praslin, but staying overnight means the beaches are quieter in the early morning and late afternoon.

Airport and getting there
Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) is on Mahé. From Mahé, fast ferries run to La Digue, usually with a stop on Praslin, and a short crossing links Praslin and La Digue several times a day; check current timetables. Helicopter transfers from Mahé land on La Digue, and bicycles can be hired near the jetty at La Passe.
