Malolo Lailai holidays
Three resorts, a marina and a small airstrip share Malolo Lailai, a small island in Fiji's Mamanuca Group, about 20 km west of Nadi on the main island of Viti Levu. A shallow lagoon separates it from the larger Malolo Island to the north, and reefs surround both.
Beaches
The beach in front of Plantation Island Resort, on the north-west of Malolo Lailai, is a long strip of white sand facing the lagoon, with calm, shallow water that suits children. At low tide the lagoon drains to wide sand flats, so swimming is easiest around high tide. Musket Cove, on the north side, has a sheltered beach beside the marina. Things to do
Snorkelling and diving trips visit the reefs of the Mamanuca Group, and boats run day trips to Monuriki, the uninhabited island where the film Cast Away was shot. Cloudbreak, a powerful reef break for experienced surfers, lies on the reef near Tavarua, a boat ride away. Musket Cove Marina is a stop for cruising yachts crossing the Pacific. Kayaks, paddleboards and sailing boats are available at the resorts, and a walk to the hill in the middle of Malolo Lailai gives a view over the lagoon.

Airport and getting there
Nadi International Airport (NAN) on Viti Levu is the international gateway. From Port Denarau, the Malolo Cat catamaran runs directly to Malolo Lailai in roughly an hour (check the current timetable), and private air transfers from Nadi by small plane or helicopter take around 15 minutes.
