About Upolu

Upolu is Samoa's most populous island, a basaltic shield volcano in the South Pacific anchored by To Sua Ocean Trench, a 30-metre sinkhole reached by a wooden ladder through ferns and connected to the open sea by a tidal underwater tunnel. On the southeast corner, Lalomanu Beach faces the offshore islet of Nu'utele with palm-fringed white sand, while Saleapaga Beach in the next cove west drops to cliff edges along the lagoon. Sea temperatures hold between 26 and 28 °C year-round, with Faleolo International airport 45 minutes from Apia.
