About Ofu Beach
The National Park of American Samoa – the only US federal reserve south of the equator, declared in 1988 – wraps Ofu Beach, a six-kilometre powder-white strand backed by the 494-metre basalt cliffs of Mount Tumutumu on the Manuʻa Islands. A single-lane bridge across the channel reaches the equally empty beach on neighbouring Olosega Island, with the barrier reef visible from the sand at both. Under twenty thousand visitors reach the territory each year; the sea stays at 27–29 °C year-round, drier from May to October.
