About Cable Beach
Cable Beach takes its name from the 1889 telegraph cable laid between Broome and Java, and its 22 kilometres of white quartz sand on the eastern Indian Ocean host the camel sunset trains that have walked single-file along the tideline since 1985. Gantheaume Point exposes 130-million-year-old sauropod footprints in the red rocks at very low tide, while Town Beach faces Roebuck Bay where moonlight paints the Staircase to the Moon across the mudflats from March to October. Sea temperatures hold 26–29 °C year-round; the local international airport is ten minutes away.
