About Whitehaven Beach
Whitehaven Beach unfurls along seven kilometres of Whitsunday Island inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, its sand a 98 percent silica powder that stays cool underfoot on the hottest days. At the northern tip, Hill Inlet braids that white sand with tidal turquoise into swirling patterns photographed from the lookout above, while Chalkies Beach across Solway Passage repeats the same silica strand with far fewer boats. Sea temperatures sit between 27 and 29 °C81 and 84 °F from December through April, with Hamilton Island airport thirty minutes away by boat.
