About Le Morne
At Mauritius' southwestern tip rises Le Morne Brabant, a 556-metre basaltic monolith whose cliff caves sheltered runaway Maroons through the 18th and 19th centuries and joined the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2008. Below the rock, Le Morne Beach curves six kilometres of white sand inside a turquoise lagoon, while the offshore reef pass known as One Eye breaks into one of the world's most celebrated kitesurf swells. The Indian Ocean holds 26 to 28 °C from December through April, with Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport fifty minutes by motorway.
