About Nosy Iranja

Off northwest Madagascar in the Mozambique Channel, Nosy Iranja is a pair of small islands linked by a 1.5-kilometre sandbar that surfaces at low tide and submerges at high, joining Nosy Iranja Be to the smaller Nosy Iranja Kely. The larger island fringes white sand under coconut palms, while the islet shelters a Malagasy fishing village and a colonial-era lighthouse above beaches where hawksbill turtles come ashore to nest. Indian Ocean waters hold 27–29 °C from December through February, easing only to 24–25 °C in July and August.
