Haeundae Beach holidays
Haeundae Beach is the city beach of Busan, South Korea's second-largest city, on the country's south-east coast. About 1.5 km of sand is backed by a wall of hotels and high-rises, among them the LCT Landmark Tower, which at 411 m is Busan's tallest building.
Beaches
Haeundae's main beach has fine, pale sand and a gently shelving seabed, with lifeguards and a marked swimming zone during the official summer season. At its western end, Dongbaek Island is circled by a coastal path. Gwangalli, a few metro stops west, looks out on the lit-up Gwangan Bridge, and Songjeong to the north-east is quieter and popular with beginner surfers. Summer brings huge crowds, while the Haeundae Sand Festival, with its large sculptures, is usually held in May.
Things to do
Haeundae Blueline Park runs two rides along the old coastal railway line: the Beach Train from Mipo to Songjeong and the small, colourful Sky Capsules on an elevated track to Cheongsapo. On Dongbaek Island, Nurimaru APEC House, built for the 2005 APEC summit, stands on the rocks by the sea. Busan X the Sky, near the top of the LCT tower, looks down on the whole shore. Haeundae Market is packed with street-food stalls, and Haedong Yonggungsa, a Buddhist temple built on rocks above the waves, lies about 20 minutes away by car. The Busan International Film Festival holds screenings in the Centum City area each autumn.

Busan's summer is hot and humid, with the jangma rainy season from late June into July and a chance of typhoons in August and September. Late spring and autumn are drier and clearer, and winter is cold but mostly sunny.

Haeundae's beachfront hotels put the sand and the metro on foot. Marine City, west of the beach, has skyscraper apartments with sea views, and Centum City is close to the BEXCO exhibition centre and large shopping malls.

Airport and getting there
Gimhae International Airport (PUS) is on the west side of Busan, roughly 60–90 minutes from Haeundae by light rail and metro line 2, with a change at Sasang, or by airport limousine bus, depending on traffic. KTX high-speed trains link Seoul with Busan Station in about two and a half hours, and ferries sail from Busan's international terminal to Fukuoka and other ports in Japan.
