About Takenohama Beach
The San'in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark, a 110-kilometre stretch of Sea of Japan cliffs, caves and dunes designated in 2010, frames Takenohama Beach – a kilometre-long white-sand crescent ranked among the country's top 88. Just offshore the Hasakari-iwa rock formation rises wadable from the shallows, while smaller Kirihama Beach curls into the next cove west and tiny Ojima can be reached on foot across a low-tide sand spit. The water warms to 25–27 °C from July through September.
