About Gibraltar
The territory's skyline is defined by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 426-metre limestone monolith long identified as one of the Pillars of Hercules; its Upper Rock Nature Reserve covers nearly half the peninsula and shelters Europe's only wild monkeys, the Barbary macaques. On the east, Catalan Bay tucks a fishing-village cove of colourful houses against the cliff, while Eastern Beach unspools a longer pale-sand strand to the north. Sea temperatures hold between 21 and 23 °C from July through September, and Gibraltar International airport sits a five-minute walk from town.
