Benidorm holidays
Benidorm, on the Costa Blanca about 45 km north-east of Alicante, is known for its skyline of high-rise hotels and apartment towers, which grew out of a fishing village from the 1950s onwards. Two long beaches frame a rocky headland with the old town, and the resort stays open all year, busy with families in summer and long-stay visitors in winter.
Beaches
Levante, east of the old town, is the livelier of the two main beaches, with bars and hotels right behind its promenade. Poniente, to the west, is longer and usually calmer, backed by a promenade of curved concrete terraces. Both have fine sand, a gentle slope that suits children and lifeguards through the season. Mal Pas, a small cove below the old town, sits between them beside the harbour.
Things to do
The Balcón del Mediterráneo, a lookout at the end of the old town, looks along both beaches, and the lanes behind it are full of tapas bars. Boats from the harbour cross to Benidorm Island, a protected rock a few kilometres offshore. Theme parks ring the town: Terra Mítica, Aqualandia and the marine park Mundomar, and the Terra Natura zoo. The cliffs of Serra Gelada Natural Park rise north of Levante, with walks to viewpoints and an old lighthouse. Inland, the castle village of Guadalest and the Fonts de l'Algar waterfalls are both under an hour away, and the old town of Altea is a short trip up the coast.
Weather and best time to visit
The sea at Benidorm warms fastest from May to June, by about 4 °C (7 °F) in one month.
Benidorm has hot, dry summers, and July and August bring the biggest crowds and highest prices. The winters are mild and sunny, so the resort stays busy with visitors who stay for weeks or months. Spring and autumn offer quieter beaches and warm days.
Hotels and where to stay
The Levante side, including the Rincón de Loix, has the most nightlife and hotels close to the beach. Poniente is quieter and popular with families, and the old town between them is best for restaurants. Many hotels sell all-inclusive packages.

Airport and getting there
Alicante–Elche Airport (ALC) is about 60 km away, around 45 minutes by motorway; coaches run from the airport to Benidorm. TRAM line 1 connects Benidorm with Alicante along the coast, and line 9 runs north from Benidorm through Altea to Dénia.
