Flamingo Beach holidays
Flamingo Beach is a stretch of sand on Renaissance Island, a small private island off Oranjestad, the capital of Aruba, where pink flamingos wander among the sunbathers. Aruba itself is a Dutch Caribbean island about 30 km off the coast of Venezuela and a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Beaches
Renaissance Island belongs to the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort, and water taxis run to it from the hotel; Flamingo Beach is primarily for adults, while Iguana Beach on the same island welcomes families; the resort's current rules set any visiting hours for children. Non-guests may be able to buy a day pass, subject to availability and the resort's current policy. On Aruba's west coast, Eagle Beach is a wide beach backed by low-rise hotels and fofoti trees, and Palm Beach, lined with high-rise resorts, has calm water for swimming. In the south-east, Baby Beach near San Nicolas is a shallow lagoon that suits children, and Mangel Halto has snorkelling among mangroves.
Things to do
Arikok National Park covers about a fifth of Aruba, with desert landscapes, caves with ancient rock drawings and the Natural Pool, a rock pool on the wild north coast reached by four-wheel drive, on horseback or on foot. In the north, the California Lighthouse overlooks sand dunes, and the wreck of the Antilla, a German cargo ship scuttled in 1940, is a popular dive and snorkel site off Malmok. Oranjestad has colourful Dutch colonial buildings and Fort Zoutman, built in the late 18th century and now a historical museum, while San Nicolas is known for its street murals.

Aruba is warm and dry all year, with little rain and steady trade winds from the east that cool the air. Short showers are most likely between October and January. The sea on the south and west coasts is usually calm, while the north coast faces rough surf. Aruba lies outside the main hurricane belt, although storms occasionally pass nearby. The busiest season runs from December to April.
Hotels and where to stay
Palm Beach has the large high-rise resorts, casinos and restaurants, and Eagle Beach has smaller, low-rise hotels. Staying at the Renaissance in Oranjestad is the easiest way to spend time on Flamingo Beach.

Airport and getting there
Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) lies about 5 km south-east of Oranjestad, right next to Renaissance Island, so aircraft can be seen and heard from Flamingo Beach. Taxis reach Oranjestad in about 10 minutes and Palm Beach in about 25, and the airport has direct flights from North America, Europe and other Caribbean islands.
