Where are the warm seas in August?

August is among the warmest swimming months in many Mediterranean resorts. Mallorca, Rhodes and Antalya all reach high summer water temperatures in our monthly records. The choice is therefore less about finding somewhere warm and more about the kind of day you want: long swims, a shaded family beach or short dips between exploring a town.

Warm does not always mean refreshing

Palma, Majorca and Antalya are useful Mediterranean comparisons. The Persian Gulf can be warmer still, but very warm water offers less relief from the heat on land. For a cooler alternative, look at Atlantic coasts and check the specific beach's waves and currents as well as its temperature. In the Caribbean, August remains within hurricane season; compare seasonal conditions before deciding that a tropical destination is the better summer option.
